    Iron-Free Multivitamin Safe for Hemochromatosis

Most multivitamins, whether from a retail store or a healthcare professional, are not created for those with iron overload. In fact, most multivitamins contain ingredients that may be counterproductive or even harmful to people with hemochromatosis! Even iron-free multivitamins often contain high levels of vitamin C, carotenoids, or other nutrients that may make iron overload worse, not better.

That’s why, for over a decade, the number one question asked at Hemochromatosis Help was, “What multivitamin can I take if I have hemochromatosis?” For those ten years, we looked at multiple manufacturers and multiple different formulas to no avail. We just couldn’t find the right, high-quality formula, and the right, high-quality manufacturer for it…until now.

The Hemochromatosis Help Iron-Free Multivitamin has all the things you need without the things you don't. It provides a balanced, well-absorbed, comprehensive mixture of vitamins and minerals to support your overall health and fuel your body throughout the day. What makes it unique is what it doesn't have, which includes problem nutrients commonly found in other multivitamins!

    A Multivitamin Without Iron

One of the top sources of excess iron for people with hemochromatosis comes from multivitamins or other supplements containing iron. “Women-specific” formulas, in particular, often include added iron.

Supplement makers may assume that low iron is the problem for their customers, so they are trying to get iron into their bodies as efficiently as possible. This means not only do they sometimes add iron to their formulas, but they use forms of iron designed to maximize absorption. That's the last thing you need!

    Minimize the Iron Enhancing Vitamins

Two ingredients commonly found in high amounts in most multivitamins are vitamin C and carotenoids, specifically beta-carotene. Vitamin C and beta-carotene, in large quantities, are well known for enhancing iron absorption.

The inclusion of these two nutrients is what makes most multivitamins not suitable for the hemochromatosis population.

Not only do most multivitamins have high levels of vitamin C and carotenoids, but comparable high-quality, professional-level multivitamins, with the high standards that we insist on for our supplements, tend to have megadoses of these two!

However, all people need some vitamin C and carotenoids to be healthy. For example, our bodies cannot make vitamin C, so if we don’t consume it in food or in a supplement, we’re at risk for serious health challenges. This means complete avoidance is not ideal either.

With the Hemochromatosis Help Iron-Free Multivitamin, you’ll get enough vitamin C and beta-carotene to receive their health benefits, but not so much as to increase iron absorption.

With only 40 mg of vitamin C and a minimal amount of carotenoids, you can safely consume this with a meal and not worry about it adversely impacting iron absorption. This is the perfect compromise for someone with iron overload!

    Powerful Iron-Free Multivitamin Includes Antioxidants

Oxidation is a fundamental problem of hemochromatosis and a major reason why individuals develop health concerns over time. One consequence of high iron is a chronic state of oxidative stress in the cells.

Over time, this oxidative stress can contribute to a number of problems, including organ damage, insulin resistance and diabetes, arthritis and joint pain, low energy and fatigue, and inflammation and infection.

The inclusion of antioxidants in the Hemochromatosis Help Iron-Free Multivitamin is another unique feature of this formula. Most mainstream multivitamins don’t include antioxidants, but this one does!

Favorites you’ve heard about in our antioxidant formulas, books, and video course are all included, such as milk thistle, green tea, coffee extract, and other polyphenol-rich antioxidants. Additional antioxidants provide support for blood sugar balance and liver health, which are other important considerations for the iron overload population.

High-Quality, Correct Forms for Vitamin and Minerals

We weren’t willing to give up our high standards when it comes to all the other ingredients in this multivitamin, either. It’s not only about the iron and what makes it better or worse. There are other general health-supporting reasons to take a multivitamin, so the rest of the ingredient list must also make sense!

For example, the B vitamins are all found in the most bioavailable, metabolically active, preferred form. Especially noteworthy is this multivitamin contains natural folate and not the more troublesome synthetic folic acid found in many multivitamins. It also includes robust amounts of B6 and B12 to support your energy.

Vitamin E appears as d-alpha tocopherol as well as additional mixed tocopherols. Minerals such as magnesium, zinc, and selenium are in the chelated form for optimal absorption.
